Why Do Dogs Do Zoomies?

Tips & Tricks

One minute they’re asleep in bed, the next they’re auditioning for the next Fast and Furr-ious movie! When your furry friend goes from cool, calm and collected to the fastest thing you’ve ever seen, you know they got those zoomies. But why do they do it?

There are a number of reasons your dog might suddenly feel the need for speed!

Pent-up Energy: Dogs have varying levels of energy, and when they have excess energy that hasn't been expended through physical activity, play, or mental stimulation, they may get the zoomies as a way to release that energy. It's like a dog's way of blowing off steam.

Playfulness: Dogs just want to have fun! Dogs love to run and chase, and zoomies are a fun way to get that hit of playful dopamine.

Stress Relief: Just as dogs use play and running to have fun, they may also get the zoomies when they are feeling anxious or stressed. It can be a way for them to cope with their emotions and release tension.

Boredom: Dogs can get the zoomies when they are bored and looking for something to do. It's a sign that they need more mental and physical stimulation to keep their minds and bodies occupied.

Social Interaction: In multi-dog households, zoomies can be a form of social interaction. Dogs might chase each other in playful, friendly races, providing exercise and bonding opportunities with their furry housemates.

So the next time your furry friend decides to go full-speed ahead in your living room, embrace the chaos, and know that they're simply celebrating life in their own unique way.
